I'm an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at UC Santa Cruz. My research focuses on the design and analysis of methods for autonomous systems to explain themselves. Before returning to academia, I worked at Sony AI on the GT Sophy Project. I received a Ph.D. in EEECS from MIT, an M.S. student in Computational and Mathematical Engineering at Stanford University, and a B.S. in Computer Science with Highest Honors, a B.S. in Mathematics with Honors, and a Music Minor at UC San Diego.

Maroussia Lévesque (Attorney)

Maroussia Lévesque works at the crossroads of law and technology. She has a background in interactive arts, having lead interdisciplinary teams at the Obx lab for experimental media within the Hexagram research-creation institute. She was called to the Bar in 2013 and clerked for the Chief Justice at the Quebec Court of Appeal, Canada. She participated to the inquiry commission on the protection of journalists’ sources, investigating law enforcement’s electronic surveillance practices. She researched artificial intelligence and human rights at the Digital Inclusion Lab within Global Affairs Canada. She is a member of IEEE’s working group on algorithmic bias.

Malek Ben Salem (Accenture)

Dr. Malek Ben Salem is a Technology Research Director at Accenture, where she leads Quantum Security and AI Security. She has over 20 years of experience in the technology and security sectors. Her research lies at the nexus of cybersecurity and AI and focuses on data protection,  trustworthy AI, and application security.  She advises Fortune 500 organizations on developing and adopting innovative security products and offerings and on achieving real risk reduction. Dr. Ben Salem is a NewAmerica cybersecurity fellow, a senior IEEE fellow and an Accenture Certified Senior Technology Architect (STA),  She holds a PhD and a MSc in Computer Science from Columbia University and a Dipl.-Ing. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Hanover, GERMANY. She also holds a certificate in Technology Strategy from the MIT Sloan School of Business.
