Abstract:
What did it take to launch a GPT-4-powered tutor on a learning site that millions of learners use? Is it safe? How do we know if it will help more learners learn more? I will discuss the development and research efforts behind Khanmigo, Khan Academy's tutor for students and assistant for teachers, including our choice of models, our approach to safety and security, and most importantly, our efforts to build learning science into the system.
