The right to inclusion in AI-infused education
Abstract
New research conducted in the UK examines learners' exposure and attitudes to educational technology in classrooms, particularly in the context of AI and potential impacts on inclusion. This presentation will provide an overview of the current state of affairs, then drill down into what this could mean for queer learners, given current national political and media attitudes surrounding queerness. This will be considerate of not only queerness but other facets of identity that may intersect with it (such as disability, socioeconomic status and racialisation). The goal is to provide listeners with not only concrete knowledge, but ideas for where more research may be needed and whose perspectives are vital to solicit. There will be a final call to action encouraging queer researchers (and others) to leverage their lived experience and unique positionality to expand the current body of work in ways that directly benefit vulnerable youth.
